Apple’s First 2026 Update: AirTag 2 & iOS 26.2.1

Apple is now rolling out the first software updates of 2026, following the announcement of the first product of 2026. Today, the company announced the second generation AirTag with enhanced connectivity range and findability. In order for your iPhone and iPad to be able to communicate with the AirTag 2 properly, Apple has released iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS 26.2.1 to support its newly announced tracker.

In addition to AirTag 2 support, today's releases include additional, though unknown, bug fixes to improve your Apple devices' performance.

The iOS 26.2.1 update is available for the following devices

🔹iPhone 11 Series
🔹iPhone SE 2 (2nd, 3rd Generation)
🔹All later iPhone models

The cost of the AirTag 2 is the same as its predecessor, which, according to Apple, is the most popular tracker in the world. This means that you will have to pay $29.99 for a single AirTag 2 device or $99.99 for a four pack of these devices. What you will be getting in this package is a coin-shaped device similar to its predecessor, but this time it has a second-gen Ultrawideband chip, which is used in the iPhone 17 series, giving it a 50% increased range. Apple has also increased the volume of the speaker by 50%, making it easier for you to hear your AirTag 2 when it detects it.

In addition to AirTag 2 support, today Apple has announced new Apple Watch bands to celebrate the upcoming Black History Month. However, no new watch faces have been included in today's release of watchOS to be used with a new braided solo loop band.

Just in case you are not aware of iOS 26, iOS 26 can be installed on iPhone 11 Series / SE 2 and later models. iPadOS 26 can be installed on iPads with a processor of A12 and later models. Moreover, watchOS 26 can be installed on Apple Watch Series 6 / SE2 and later models. You can update your device by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
